Kōtuku have been learning about spatial awareness in art. We want to make sure we use the whole space for our art works, and also use the space to make our art stand out. As part of learning this, we have been looking at zentangle art, and created the following pieces...

Andy Warhol Art
Last week we learnt about Pop art and Andy Warhol.
First of all we cut up different papers to use in our pop art. We then chose a picture of our choice for our creation. We drew the outline of our picture on a laminated sheet and then stuck the pieces of paper on. This created our pop art picture. Once that was finished, we put our creations through the laminator. They are now ready for display.

Helping Heroes! Part 2
Our cities/communities are completed! We have everything from hotels, Do Duck In, McDonalds, farms, and lolly factories. There's a beach, a tractor repair shop and a mountain bike track. We are soooo proud of our mahi!
Break in the Weather
We were sooooo happy to have a break from the rain, rain, rain! Because our usual bush walk would be super soggy, we decided to go on an adventure over the swing bridge and check out the beach. We are super lucky to be located where we are!

Helping Heroes! Part 1
Our topic this term is 'Helping Heroes'. Today, we started to create our own communities. We started off with a brainstorm of what our community needs to function. Who helps us? How do we help others in our community?
We then did a community plan before creating our 3D communities on card. Watch this space!

Seasons
This term, our topic is Seasons, and we are exploring all sorts of weather too. Today was a VERY rainy day and there was thunder and lightning in the morning. Autumn leaves are also all over the ground outside, so we are surrounded by our topic!
In Reading, a big focus for everyone is comprehension - understanding what we are reading.
Today, our comprehension challenge was to follow written instructions to create snowflakes, tulips and sunshines from folded paper to put in our seasons window. The instructions are included below if you want to try for yourselves.
That covered Spring, Summer and Winter. For Autumn, we created pastel and dye fallen leaves, carefully copying the designs and colours we found in fallen leaves around the school.
You might see in the photo that we are also learning Te Reo Māori words for weathery things, and have written up information reports as well from books we have been reading about seasons and weather.
