Measurement in Maths! T1W4

We have had a great time learning about measurement in Kōtuku. We were able to choose different items to measure. We guessed how long some things were, and then measured them to see if we were correct. We used our small tables, sand pit toys, branches and rulers. It was so much fun!

Kōtuku Community Club T1W3

Today, as part of the school values 'Whanaungatanga' (community) and 'Kaitiakitanga' (others) we went for a walk around Moana picking up rubbish off the side of the road, in the gutters, around the church and in the bushes. We were very surprised at the amount of rubbish we collected, as Moana always looks very clean and tidy.

We had groups of four people who worked together to fill up their rubbish bags. Almost all of the bags were filled. The type of rubbish we found were: cans, beer bottles, cigarette butts, bottle lids, drink bottles, glad wrap, chewing gum, a hair tie, kit kat wrapper, packets of chips, chocolate ice cream wrapper, knickers, socks and so much more!

Today we went down just two streets. We can't wait for next week to collect rubbish again, but this time, with BIGGER bags!

Swimming in 2022!

Welcome back to 2022 Kōtuku's Class Blog!

We've had a great start to the year by welcoming two new students to our school and class! Welcome Harmony and TJ!

This term we have decided to make use of the greatest resource we have, right on our doorstep - the lake! All Lake Brunner School classes have had their first week of swimming lessons in it, and we can't wait for next week!

While the swimming lessons were taking place, the rest of us were demonstrating our Character Strengths with creativity, leadership, kindness, perseverance and many more!

We Went Sailing!

Yesterday I went sailing with Bryce and Kash. We did some training, then we pushed the boat in the water.

At the beginning Bryce was scared. He was scared of the boat tipping over but a few minutes later I go so sick, and then I got scared. We bumped into other boats. We got a ride on the speedboat.

Then when we were going back to shore, we bumped into the deck. Then Kash jumped out of the boat. He and Bryce were scared. Then we hit the stones and we got out. We had to get the trailer, then put the trailer in the water. They put the boat on the trailer, then brought the boat back. Then we took the gear off.

It was fun.

When I went sailing, we set the sailing boats up. Then we got our wetsuits on and got our life jackets too. After that we picked our buddies and got the sailing boat off the trailer and started sailing.

We all raced to the yellow thing in the water. We were in the front until we reached the yellow thing in the water. After, one of the sailing boats went in front of us.

Simon called us to come to him and he clipped on. He went so fast! We went past the house boat.

At sailing we had to build the sail. First we put the sail into the hole where the sail goes. Then we attached the pole to the sail and fitted it in. Next we tied a knot on a rope to keep it in. The sail is built!

Now we could get ready so we put our togs on. Then we got a wetsuit. After we got our wetsuits on, we got a jacket for extra warmth. Soon after, we got a PFD which stands for Personal Floatation Device. Yes, we are now ready to get on the water.

First we got numbered 1, 2 and 3. I was Number 2 so my job was to be in charge of the sail. I had to help Number 1 by getting the boat in the water. Number 3 got to sit in the front. Off we go!

On the way back from sailing, our boat started to sink so we let go of the sail rope and kept scooping out water. There was about 40 scoops of water. Then we got to shore.

We've been looking at and making rotational symmetry pictures over the last few days. Check out the amazing pictures we made today!
